Pride and Joy Environmental Resort in South Melbourne Beach, Florida. Ever since I discovered I had Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), it has been my dream to create a safe, yet fun retreat from the assault that is everyday life in a world of toxic chemicals. Special precautions have been used while renovating this property using safe building materials, furniture and bedding. Only non-toxic and non-fuming cleaners are used. Everyday household chemicals, such as hairspray, perfume, scented products and pesticides are banned from the premises. The entire resort is, of course, a non-smoking area. We’ve tried to create a non-toxic vacation haven so you are free to breathe deeply of the sea air and the endless horizon.
Our resort sits on prime ocean-front location located 8 miles north of the Sebastian Inlet State Recreation Area with millions of butterflies, a large population of sea turtles, and dolphins and whales that come to visit. Fully-furnished one-bedroom apartments, complete with livingroom and kitchen, are available by the week, month, or long-term (click for more information, photos, testimonials, and rates).

Pride and Joy Environmental Resort is located on South Melbourne Beach, on the “space coast” of Florida. The area is the number one nesting ground in the world for giant Loggerhead sea turtles. Dolphins and whales can be seen regularly from our bluff. Herons, pelicans, and other birds are plentiful. Manatees inhabit the Indian River (we know where to find and pet them).

Hello! My name is Anne, and I am the longest term resident at the Pride and Joy. I first came here in February 1999, and after arriving, I never wanted to leave. I think you’ll feel the same way. If you have ever tried to find a healthy environment, or create a safe place for yourself, then you will appreciate and admire the tremendous work of Val Gaccione. Val has devoted her energy, her resources, and her soul to making the Pride and Joy a place where people with MCS can come, recover, and thrive. The Pride and Joy is paradise on earth. I tell Val that — and I don’t think she realizes how unique this place is. Although no place on earth is perfectly safe, this is as close as I have found. All the elements are here: clean air, clean water, clean environment — and apartments especially designed for the chemically sensitive. You’ll feel like a new person. Let me put it another way. The Pride and Joy is so unique that I choose to live here, even though I work in Georgia as a university professor, and I commute by airplane, just to be able to live here. Even if you have MCS, you’ll be surprised how healthy you feel at the Pride and Joy. When friends visit, they say they can throw away their allergy and cold medications, and their maladies go away. The people who come here, and who do the best, are upbeat and positive and self-sufficient. That’s the meaning of Pride and Joy. This is not a medical facility; this is a wonderful living community that Val has created and that you can enjoy. I would be delighted to talk to you, and tell you more about the features of the Pride and Joy. Please contact Val, and let me know how I can contact you.
